I appreciate that you find my photos tender and gentle, Eli. Before Christmas it´s a tradition to make a special sort of buns with saffron. And since the international cuisin has arrived also to us, so I think quite many might use it as you do in rice. Saffron in food does not really belong to traditional Swedish food, though, it´s a novelty..
Buns with saffron? mmmm I wish to try to do it… Saffron is a medical herb, I put it everywhere 😀 and its colour is very cheerful :-)) (I use also many turmeric for the same reasons…)
Google the word ”Lussekatt” and you will find pictures of those buns. ”Lusse” is acually = Lucia, the name of the Italian saint that we celebrate the 13/12. The religious meaning of this celebration is gone for most people, but the tradition is very much alive. Google ”Lucia” as well and you´ll get some idea of this tradition. 🙂
oooohhhh! What a surprise! maybe you don’t know… Who brings gifts to children in the area of Mantova, Verona, Modena? Santa Lucia!! Not Santa Klaus, but Santa Lucia. She arrives during the night with her donkey. Childrens prepare water and meal for the donkey and go bed. While they are sleeping Santa Lucia leaves on the table toys, oranges, cakes, chocolate and so on! Lussekatt looks like eyes because Lucia is blind. Yellow is the colour of light: Lucia is luce (light). It’s very exciting and lovely, I will cooke lussekatt 🙂
I did not know this at all. And it never has occured to me that the raisins represent Lucia´s eyes and that the yellow represent light. Very interesting. Here she is regarded as a Queen of Light that brings us light in a very dark period of the year.
Of course! We can see through the eyes and the light. The name of Lucia in the dialect that we speak in Mantova is ”Lüssia” (the italian pronounciation of Lucia is Luchìa as here

Undrar om barn fortfarande lär sig sjunga ”Ekorr´n satt i granen”? Jag tror att den där typen av barnsånger skapade en nära relation till de djur man sjöng om.
Hoppas att dom lär sig ”Ekorr´n satt” fortfarande, tror du har rätt i att det skapar en fin relation till det vilda!
Och så har du lärt mig ytterligare ett blomnamn: Ljusblomma. Visst finns den också i vitt?
Tråkigt att Betonglistan försvinner 20 april. Har varit ett roligt inslag i fågelskådningens värld!
Jag tror inte att jag stött på namnet ”ljusblomma” tidigare, namnet tidlösa är väl vanligare.
Betonglistan att finnas kvar som syfte, men inte vara kopplad till en särskild sida som nu, tyvärr. Och då försvinner ju den där trevliga tävlingsjakten. Men det kanske går att greja kopplingen i framtiden. Claes Hansson har i dagarna skapat en Facebooksida med namnet Sthlm Betong.
Ja Tidlösa är ju mer bekant(så poetiskt), men inte har jag kommit ihåg hur den ser ut. Ska försöka nu!
Ja, i mitt stilla sinne har jag hoppats på att någon kunnig ung person ska kunna återskapa en St. betong-sida som den vi har nu… Facebook har jag hållit mig ifrån….hitintills!
